Terrace Homes are climbing the charts in urban areas due to the ever-increasing population and decreasing land space. People living in apartments are drifting towards terraced homes because of their affordable rates. There are some design aspects which you should take a look at before buying a terraced house.

Terraced Homes are often referred to as shared-wall dwellings. They share wall with the neighbouring houses. This leads to the transfer of noise and causes an interruption in privacy. The houses are tightly packed and that’s why there is always a scope of good-friendly neighbourhood relations.

These are developed in rows and all the houses in a row have a similar structure and layout. Some row houses have different colours just to the crank up the superficial features. These tightly packed developments keep each other warm and comfortable as compared to apartments.

Other features include stonewalk and front yard. The stonewalk outside the houses make it easier for people to walk across the street. These keep the traffic at a distance from your house. The front yard or garage portion is designed to accommodate at least two vehicles.

The long monotonous row makes it at times less attractive but, different colours and facades and personalisation of the dwelling can make them stand out.

        Terraced Houses are small, compact-sized house. Due to their size, their architectural layout plays an important role. A well-architect-ed house will still be a choice of many regardless of the size. Terraced House Floor Plans should be designed and developed by experienced architects. These plans should be developed keeping in mind the location and area space of these developments. There are two preferable layouts

        1. 3-person, 2-bedroom space
        2. 5-person, 3-bedroom space

        3-Person, 2-Bedroom Space

        This is the ideal layout and is used in most of the terraced house floor plans. A kitchen, bathroom and living area on the ground floor and two bedrooms and a bathroom on the top floor along with front yard space and a garage portion. A master bedroom for the couple and a mini bedroom for children works well for small families.

        3-Person, 2-Bedroom justify

        This is preferred for those who want more space. Generally, a room, a kitchen, a bathroom and a living space on the ground floor and two bedrooms and a bathroom(or two) along with a balcony on the top floor is preferred. A front yard and a garage portion are mostly present in such layouts. A master bedroom for couples, a mini bedroom for children and an extra room that can serve well as a guest room or study room.

          TERRACED HOUSES vs SEMI-DETACHED

          Terraced Houses and Semi-Detached Houses, both are in high demand by people these days. Well most of them find these two housing styles similar, they are different in a few aspects. Let’s take a quick look.

          SHARED WALLS

          Terraced houses are generally developed in rows. The houses share the walls with the neighbors. That is the house on the left and on the right will share walls with the one in the middle whereas, in Semi-detached houses, the walls are generally shared with only one neighbor that is, there is only one common wall. The house behind one is with which it shares its walls. So, Terraced Houses have two shared walls while the semi-detached house has just one wall in common. If you are a person who doesn’t like the noise and interference of others, then Semi-Detached will be the right choice.

          AREA SPACE

          Terraced Houses have a generally smaller area as compared to Semi-Detached Houses. If you are looking for a home with a bigger space then Semi-Detached Houses are perfect for you. While Terraced Houses have bigger bathrooms and kitchen, Semi-Detached House has bigger rooms.

          COST

          We are addressing this factor in the end but this is one of the most important factors. The house that you buy should be worth the amount you pay. Terraced Houses are comparatively cheaper than Semi-Detached Houses. So those who have a tight budget should consider Terraced Houses.

          NOTE: Terraced Houses are build in rows. If you can find the one on the end of the block then that will be the best.
